June 2024, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – UNIDO ITPO Korea organized a capacity building and Korean International Business Environment Sensitization Workshop for Ethiopian businesses and stakeholders in Addis Ababa. Under the objective to raise awareness of the Ethiopian businesses on the Korean international business environment, not only Korean experiences were exchanged but also in-depth discussions and question and answer sessions were provided.
The workshop was attended by 26 Ethiopian companies which are members of Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association (AACCSA), UNIDO Ethiopia regional office, KOTRA Addis Ababa office, Ethiopian Airlines South Korea Regional Office, a Korean entrepreneur, and Korea Industry Intelligentization Association (KOIIA).
Opening remarks were delivered by Asegid Adane, Deputy Director of the UNIDO Ethiopia regional office, and Zekarias Assefa, Deputy Secretary General of AACCSA. As a next speaker, Hanna Kim, Director General of KOTRA Addis Ababa, introduced the information on Korea’s economy, geography, business environment, market potential, and the role of KOTRA. Following was the presentation of Ethiopian Airlines South Korea Regional Office and a Korean entrepreneur, which shared Korean international trade strategies and policies. KOIIA was also introduced, highlighting collaboration opportunities between Ethiopian stakeholders and KOIIA.
As part of UNIDO ITPO Korea’s Ethiopia Advisory Program, the workshop led to thorough discussions among participants through the exchange of knowledge and experiences from the Korean business sector. This event is expected to contribute to fostering bilateral collaboration in the private sector by enhancing Ethiopian companies’ understanding of the Korean market.
